Recently while preparing to sell a home my real estate agent requested certain documents that would facilitate the closing. I had them all, but was not sure where I had filed them. The thought occurred to me how great it would be if I had a single repository for all of the information about my home. Somewhere I could easily access all the improvements I had made to the property over the years (to prepare for capital gains calculations), a record of the warranties on all of the appliances and the services that had been done to them, the title and termite bond, the house plans and surveys, and a history of the cost of the utilities to run the home. Wouldn’t it be great if I could just hand all of this to the new owner so that they would not have to re-invent the wheel once they took over the management of this important asset.
After discussing this idea with several of my friends, they all responded very positively that “yes, that would be incredible to have”, so I began developing the idea further. The end result of my research and development is the uniquely designed MyHomeFileBox™ and I am now prepared to actively market it to the public! The handy portable expandable file case is extremely durable and contains pre-labeled sections for those important papers we all “need” access to along with added spaces for bonus items like creating a “key-card” to maintain copies of spare keys, seasonal reminders of ongoing maintenance items that need attention, lists of light bulb sizes and battery sizes and a schedule for replacing them, and a place to keep utility and maintenance bills.
A lot of thought went into building a file box that would not only accommodate legal documents – but also strong enough and deep enough to handle the manuals and warranties associated with all of the appliances and materials that make up the contents of the home.
